Coral Reef

When a grand vacation to a tropical island paradise is brought up, surely images of a flightless flight in a vast blue ocean are conjured in the mind. The pretense of flying over schools of fish, over coral reefs, makes one smile in delight at the thought of the beautiful life that the ocean are providing. Scuba diving and snorkeling would never be complete without having to go coral reef hopping

Coral reefs are important for the maintenance of the ocean itself, as it provides the habitat and protection for thousands upon thousands of fish and marine animal species. Imagine all these fish being homeless and nowhere to lay their eggs in!

Although they make look like one organism, a coral formation is actually a group of adjoined coral polyps. Coral reefs are special marine ecosystems which house a rich biodiversity. Most coral reefs are found in tropical warm waters where the nutrients are scarce, as high nutrient levels can are detrimental to coral reef formation as this only produce too much algae.

Majority of coral reefs are found in the Pacific Ocean. Examples are Australia and the islands of South Pacific like Indonesia and the Philippines. While only a few are located in the Carribean and the Atlantic Ocean.
